Welcome to Ana Solana’s Field Diary

by | Nov 29, 2017

¡Hola! Me llamo Ana Solana. Hi, my name is Ana Solana. I’m from Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inkas of Peru. My family has lived in Cusco for many generations and I am related to Atawallpa, the last Inka king. I speak Spanish and Quechua, the ancient language of the Inkas, as well as English.

I’m learning to become an archaeologist just like my dad and my tio Pedro (tio means uncle in Spanish). Otis and Wacho are my friends and they like to explore too. Together we are group called Team Ancient Explorer. Otis is a hairless Peruvian Orchid dog. He just loves to help me dig. Wacho is an alpaca and he doesn’t like to dig at all!  He prefers to help me carry field equipment and buckets full of spoil (a fancy word archaeologists use for the soil they dig up).

I travel all over the world visiting archaeological places with my dad and I keep a field diary of the things I see. My diary includes photographs I take with my camera, just like this one of Cusco city. I took this from the great fortress called Saqsaywaman.

I would to like to share cool things from my field notebook with you from time to time. Wacho and Otis and I would love to hear from you too and learn about the places you have explored or would like to explore. If your Mum and Dad say yes, we invite you to write to us.

¡Hasta la próxima amigos! Until next time friends!
